Cabin Fever! January 2010

The Group:

Saturday evening January 23rd was the night for the annual Colter's Hell Justice Committee Cabin Fever Party. The Irma Hotel Governor's Room was the location. It was naturally the chose as it provides the correct ambiance for this group of ladies and gentlemen all dressed to the nines in their Victorian costumes.

The evening began with the arrival of all guests at 6 pm, myself, Lucky Bill, greeting all as host of the fesivities. In due order the hor d'uerve table was filled with peel and eat shrimp cocktail, barbecued ribs, chicken fingers, and assorted meats and cheeses. Following the usual pleasantries were exchanged with the consumption of the fine repast it was time to sit at the poker or faro table. At the behest of the host, Flat Nose George brought his draidle, also known as a "put and take". This turned out to be a very poplular game for the evening.

The whole point of the evening was to take home an item or items during the auction. The items ranged from men's vests to bullets, to black powder and loaded ammunition. Those gathered used their winnings to purchase items during the auction overseen by the auctioneer, me. Items were going for as high as 30 thousand dollars. The catch is everyone is given a like amount of chips at no charge. Values were blue-one thousand dollars, red-five hundred dollars, with white at one hundred dollars.

Despite the inclemency of a snow storm limiting the number of Montanan's venturing south to Cody there was a fine turnout. As a matter of fact there were more ladies and gentlemen than usual.

Unlike an article on a shooting match, the only scores for this was only in the measurement of fun. By all accounts it seems everyone came out in first place.
